Museum

As part of our interaction design course II, we are working with public/educational design. In order to get some inspiration, we decided to check some museums in Stockholm.   Livrustkammaren is located at the castle in the old town. One tip is to go on thursdays after 17:00, since the entry is free.

We must point out that the purpose of our visit was not to see the beautiful artifacts at the museum, but to concentrate on the technology used to communicateinformation to the public.

The museum has an smartphone app. The usercan read QR-codes that are located on different parts of the exhibitions in order to get furtjer information about the artifacts on it.  However, the first issue we had was that there is no phone or 3G signal at the museum, since it is located atthe basement of the museum.  We wondered how the app would be used by turists that do not want to use roaming on their devices, and when we asked the personnel at the museum, they told us that there is actually a free wifi network to which visitors can connect when using the app. Unfortunately there was no information of this at the entrance or in any part of the museum.

We explored their interactive exhibits, which we did not find imaginative at all.
